Introducing GAMRU South Shore Search And Rescue
For more than 25 years, local volunteers from GAMRU South Shore Search And Rescue have sailed into Lake Ontario in every kind of weather to help save their neighbours' lives and protect property.
In that time, many skilled and determined volunteers - some with little prior boating experience - have become the pillars of an unlikely system that works uncommonly well. They have earned the respect of their community and their peers in the marine search and rescue community.
Recent years have been busy ones for GAMRU South Shore Search And Rescue. In 2015, volunteers responded to 20 calls for rescue. The next year was busier still with the unit responding to 34 calls, the highest in the unit's history. The 2017 boating season will also be among the busiest with more than 27 rescue calls.
GAMRU is a community-based organization that relies almost exclusively on the generosity of the community to operate and maintain its two rescue vessels and to train its 30 plus volunteer crew members. We welcome new members each fall, including community supporters who assist with fund raising and special events.
GAMRU South Shore Search And Rescue is an Ontario not-for- profit corporation, a member of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary (Central & Arctic) and a registered charity.
